This seven-minute show is based on the oral story originally told by Wisdom Keeper Ray Lavallee of Piapot First Nation and the illustrations of Mike Keepness from Pasqua First Nation. Through animated illustrations, a grandfather tells his grandson how the buffalo came to help their people survive in the past.

Alison Kimbley and Judith Silverthorne adapted the story for preschool aged children and families. The illustrations were animated by Tony Quiñones who was also the picture, sound and music editor. The show features the voices of Erroll Kinistino, Bevann Fox and Grayson Baker-McGarva.

The book Honouring the Buffalo: A Plains Cree Legend was originally published in English and Cree in 2015 by Your Nickle’s Worth Publishing, and subsequently has been translated into French and Cree by les Éditions de la nouvelle plume, and in German and Cree by MONS Verlag and has won several international awards.

This show is produced with participation from Citytv Saskatchewan, Canada Media Fund, Creative Saskatchewan, and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit.
