This animated TV show is based on the book Honouring the Buffalo: A Plains Cree Legend by Wisdom Keeper/Storyteller Ray Lavallee of Piapot First Nation, with illustrations of Mike Keepness from Pasqua First Nation, and written words by Judith Silverthorne.
The book Honouring the Buffalo: A Plains Cree Legend was originally published in English and Cree in 2015 by Your Nickle’s Worth Publishing, and subsequently has been translated into French and Cree by les Éditions de la nouvelle plume (2016), and in German and Cree by MONS Verlag (2019) and has won several international awards.
The book has captured the attention of children, families and educators. Now the story comes to life as an animation to entertain and educate the younger kids about the history of how through the Creator, Buffalo gave themselves as a gift for the sustenance and survival of the Plains Cree people. Through this show, youngsters will discover how every part of the buffalo was used to provide shelter, food, clothing, tools, hunting, spiritual ceremonies and many other necessities.
